Description of the Authority

The Secaucus Municipal Utilities Authority is responsible for processing all of the wastewater generated within the Township of Secaucus. The Authority owns and operates five (5) pumping stations that vary in capacity from approximately 30,000 gallons per day to over 2,000,000 gallons per day. Additionally, the Authority maintains approximately 40,000 feet of collection system piping. This collection system is maintained in conjunction with the Department of Public Works and preventative maintenance is routinely performed. The wastewater treatment facility, located at 1100 Koelle Boulevard, currently processes 3,100,000 gallons per day. This facility is an advanced secondary (Level III) treatment facility, with stringent discharge limitations that are met prior to final discharge into Mill Creek {a tributary of the Hackensack River}. There has not been a violation of these New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection imposed limits since the facility upgrade was completed in 1991. The facilities are manned 24 hours per day, seven days per week, including holidays.
